There is a big difference from learning marketing skills in a lecture at university and putting them into practice in an office, but I was told that is the best way to learn. I am a second-year student studying Marketing Management with a placement year at Manchester Metropolitan University.
During my second year, one of the units was ‘Agency Life’ where groups of us had a real client and creative brief and over the year, we became our own agency. This gave me a glimpse as to what life in an agency was like and I was intrigued to learn more.
It was daunting to leave the comfort of a classroom; however, I have been welcomed with open arms into this creative team. I have been given every opportunity to join in on meetings and give my opinion on creative artworks. The thing that has surprised me the most is how many processes there are for a project from start to finish and how many people are involved from different departments.
Three months have passed, my confidence is growing and I’m learning new things every day. I hope I can share everything I’ve learnt at university in my first two years, and I know that a full year of experience in a marketing agency will benefit me for my final year. I cannot thank everyone at RLH enough and I look forward to learning more for the rest of my year!
